OIC condemns Israeli brutal raids on Gaza

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed today its support and solidarity to the people of Palestine, and strongly condemned the continuous Israeli brutal raids on Gaza Strip and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including Jerusalem.

Saudi Arabia, addressing UN Security Council (UNSC) on behalf of the OIC, held Israel, the occupying power, solely and fully responsible for its shameful killing of innocent Palestinians; for destroying thousands of homes, buildings, and infrastructure; and for all human and material damages suffered by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

OIC stressed that the disasters and consequences caused by the Israeli aggression must be at the forefront of the international community's concerns, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Mouallimi, the permanent representative of Saudi Arabia to the UN, said.

In this regard, the OIC welcomed the Conference of International Donors for the Reconstruction of Gaza, which was held in Egypt commended the efforts of Egypt and Norway for chairing the coordination committee on international assistance for the Palestinians in this regard.

Furthermore, the OIC also emphasized the need to fulfill the announced contributions, USD 5.4 billion, and not to surrender to disappointment after Israel destroyed the infrastructure projects for which the donors have contributed.

The OIC expressed its deep concern towards the escalation of destruction, violence, murder, and heinous crimes committed against Syrian civilians; the serious deterioration of the humanitarian situation; and the failure in implementing both UNSC resolutions 2139 and 2165 on permitting the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Syrian civilians.

Moreover, the OIC called upon Member States to fulfill their commitments to support the humanitarian needs of the Syrian people, especially that the number of displaced persons and refugees has risen to reach more than 10 million inside Syria and in neighboring countries, in addition to more than four million in need of urgent humanitarian aid in the besieged areas.

Al-Mouallimi emphasized the necessity to swiftly reach a negotiated political solution.

In this regard, the OIC called upon the Security Council to shoulder its full responsibility towards the stalled political solution; and urged the UN envoy, Staffan de Mistura, to intensify the efforts aiming to form a transitional government with wide executive powers according to Geneva I Declaration, which called for establishment of an interim authority with executive powers.
