Qatar- Push for infrastructure projects

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani has urged Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to urgently complete all infrastructure developments in areas where free land has been allotted to Qataris to build homes.

This came as he visited the Ashghal headquarters recently.

He said completing infrastructure projects in areas where land has been given to citizens is a top priority of the government as this would allow citizens to build homes and live there as soon as possible. Basic amenities need to be completed in the areas include water and electricity connections and sewerage networks.

The Premier also stressed co-ordination between government agencies involved in the planning of new areas to finalise infrastructure.

He was welcomed by the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, the President of Ashghal, Engineer Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi, the Deputy Under- Secretary for Urban Planning Affairs at the ministry, Engineer Fahd Mohamed Al Qahtani, and other officials.

The Premier was also briefed on implementation of plans to solve the issue of Al Karaana waste water landfill.

New pumping stations will be built for sewage tankers near treatment plants until the completion of sewage networks and treatment plants will be developed to receive tankers, reducing dependence on the landfill.

The Premier was also updated on the Abu Nakhlah Lake project which involves draining it and rehabilitating the area environmentally.

He stressed the need to complete the projects on schedule.

He was also briefed on plans to build new areas in Umm Birka and Aba Sleel for industrial use, workers' accommodation and storage units for companies.

The Premier called for quick completion of the projects and roads leading to them.

Al Mawlawi said the Premier's second visit to Ashghal this year reflected the importance he gave to infrastructure projects vital for Qatar's socio-economic growth and providing citizens with world-class services.

The visit also reflects the Premier's continuous support to Ashghal and related entities to execute infrastructure projects according to specified standards and schedules, he said.
