Qatar- Interior Ministry signs QR187m deals at Milipol


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Ministry of Interior has signed seven deals worth QR187m with several companies participating in Milipol Qatar 2014.

Brig. Saud Rashid Al Shafi, Director, Procurement Department, General Directorate of Logistics, and member of Milipol Qatar Committee, told a press conference that the ministry had concluded seven contracts.

He said the first was signed with Al Dar Marine Company for 20 Italian-made search and rescue boats for Coastguard and the Borders Security Department, worth QR34m.

The second contract worth QR61.5m was signed with Al Hamad Trading Est. for 24 firefighting vehicles and maintenance of fire and rescue vehicles of Civil Defence.

A third deal was concluded with Salam Technology for supply and operation of security surveillance systems and programmes, worth QR22.4m.

A contract worth QR16.5m was signed with Global Enterprises Technologies to supply cards to the General Directorate of Traffic for issuing driving licences and vehicle permits.

The fifth deal was with Saleh Hamad Al Mana Company, worth QR6.8m for 114 vehicles for the ministry, while a contract worth QR36.6m was concluded with Airbus Defence and Space Company for development and maintenance of Tetra Communication System for the Communications Department.

Another contract worth QR9.9m was signed with Itqan Technologies for smart ID cards for the General Directorate of Nationality, Borders and Expatriate Affairs.

Brig. Al Shafi said more contracts would be signed by tomorrow and details will be announced at the end of the exhibition.

On the specifications of boats from Al Dar Marine, Brig. Ahmed Jamal, Director, Financial Affairs Department, said they were in line with international and local standards and the boats would be customised as per the requirements of the Coastguard.

Jabr Saeed Al Rumaihi, Managing Director, Al Dar Marine, said the boats would be made in Italy as per the requirements of the department. He said the boats would be delivered in five batches until 2015. The company will also provide support for the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders to operate the boats.

K T K Mohammed, Sales and Marketing Manager, Al Hamad Trading Est., said they would supply a 90-metre firefighting platform, five rapid intervention vehicles, 10 commanders RIV, two BA vehicles, five water tankers, and two collapse building trucks.

The company has already supplied one command vehicles and will provide another four in six months. Several local and global companies are showcasing latest technologies at the exhibition. They include Thales Qatar with innovative cyber security solutions as cyber security is one of the major concerns of Qatar and the ministry has recently enacted a new cyber security law.

Thales Qatar is also showcasing Cybels, a new system that protects critical information systems against cyber threats by anticipating, blocking and responding rapidly to attacks, said Christopher Lanovsky, Country Director.

"The scalable solution detects intrusions as part of an ad-hoc supervision service, with sensors installed at key points of a network to optimise monitoring of customers' information systems," he said.

QuinSec Security Services Ltd is displaying innovative security technology that could be used in businesses - from hotels and shopping centres seeking security surveys and advice to airports and gas installations, said David Bartholomew, Business Development Manager, Doha and Middle East.
