CNA-Q Welcomes New Qatari Members to Joint Oversight Board

(MENAFNEditorial) College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q) bid farewell to five Joint Oversight Board (JOB) and Executive Committee members while welcoming new JOB members during a ceremony earlier this week.

H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry was welcomed as the new Chair, replacing H.E. Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani who has served as head of the board since 2010.

During the ceremony, H.E. Dr. Al-Sada paid tribute to the work done by outgoing board members, H.E. Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Dr. Latifa Al-Houty, Dr. Mohammed Fathy A. Saoud, H.E. Adel Sherbini, and Mr. Ahmed Ali Al-Mawlawi.

"The contribution to the College of the outgoing members of the JOB has been admirable. They have helped CNA-Q to fulfil the vision of His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani to establish a world class college of technology, which could play an important role in transforming Qatar into a modern and educated society. Today it is a grand reality."

Both Dr. Al-Houty and Dr. Saoud joined the JOB before the inception of CNA-Q. They were part of a small team hand-picked by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser to investigate technical education around the world and bring the best to Qatar. Their journey saw the establishment and success of CNA-Q; from welcoming the first students in September 2002 to witnessing the 10th graduation ceremony in June 2014. During their tenure CNA-Q has grown from a new college with eight programs and 108 students to the State's leading technical educator with 39 program areas and more than 2,100 students and 3,700 graduates.

Dr. Ken MacLeod, President, CNA-Q recognized the work done by the outgoing members in the past 13 years.

"Mere words cannot express the gratitude we, the entire CNA-Q community past and present, owe you. Please leave here today with the knowledge and the pride that you have left a lasting legacy and a tangible realization of the vision of a successful State technical college."

Along with H.E. Dr. Al-Sada, Dr. MacLeod also welcomed new board members: Dr. Mohamed Yousef Al Mulla, Vice-Chair and CEO of QAPCO; Dr. Khalid Mohammad Al-Horr, Director Higher Education Institute, Supreme Education Council, and Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, Deputy Chief of Medical, Academic and Research Affairs – Medical Education at Hamad Medical Corporation.

"We are delighted to welcome you as our new board members. In addition to being stellar and successful individuals, you represent key sectors which influence the future of CNA-Q and its students."

The Joint Oversight Board is responsible for the decisions affecting the future development and strategic direction of the college. It is comprised of members of Qatar and Canadian business and government organizations. The new Qatari-based members join the four Canadian members: Ms. Ann Marie Vaughan, President, CNA; Ms. Cheryl Stagg, Chair of the CNA Board; and Ms. Leona Webb and Mr. Troy Mitchell, CNA Board members.

Immediately following the ceremony, the first meeting and orientation of the new board was held and Dr. Mohammed Yousef Al-Mulla was nominated, and confirmed, as the Vice-Chair of the board.

The new board will see CNA-Q into its second decade of providing hands-on, experiential learning to thousands of students from the State. H.E. Dr. Al-Sada reiterated that the work the board will be doing is vital to the future success of the college, its students and ultimately the State of Qatar.

"I must emphasize that journey to progress and development in education never ends. We have to keep on adding value to achieve higher levels of excellence."
