(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman will organise its first summit on diabetes from November 8 to 9 at the Al Shafq Club in Azaiba. Organised by the Oman Diabetes Association (ODA) the summit aims to support the programmes being held worldwide to spread awareness about the condition and the latest medical trends to deal with it.
The event patronised by H H Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq al Said advisor to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and chairman of The Research Council is being held to mark World Diabetes Day on November 14.
The summit will focus on four themes including discussions on diagnosis management of associated risks complications involved and gestational diabetes. Thirteen specialists from the US UK Italy Egypt India Oman Saudi Arabia and the UAE will participate in the event.
While addressing a press conference at the Diabetes Center on Monday Dr Noor al Busaidi director of National Diabetes & Endocrine Centre and president of ODA said 'This is the first time that we are organising a diabetes summit which will help over 400 doctors and health workers to gain knowledge on providing treatment for diabetes in a better way using latest technology. We know that the diabetes rate is increasing worldwide. According to a study conducted in 2008 12.3 per cent of Oman's population is affected by diabetes but the latest international figures project it at 14.9 per cent.'
Meanwhile the ODA will also hold three public awareness health camps in Sohar (November 21) Nizwa (November 28) and Muscat Grand Mall (December 19) where people can get themselves checked for diabetes.
