Abu Dhabi tops Arab capitals in innovations - WIPO


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The capital of UAE, Abu Dhabi, is topping Arab capitals in terms of registered international inventions, with 76 registered inventions from half of 2010 to half of 2014, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

"This result catapult Abu Dhabi to become the capital of Arab innovation," UAE news agency (WAM) said on Monday, citing WIPO's website, PatantScope.

The data for the mentioned period indicated that applicants and inventors from Abu Dhabi city registered 76 patents, followed by the Qatari capital of Doha, with 61 patents, the Saudi capital, Riyadh, third with 41 patents, and the Tunisian capital, Tunis, fourth with 17 patents.

The Moroccan capital of Rabat came in fifth place with 24 patents.

WIPO said that "patents registered by Abu Dhabi during this period are more than those of 12 Arab capitals." Moreover, the top team of inventors in the Arab world is based in Abu Dhabi.

One of the main inventors of the team is a UAE woman from Abu Dhabi. Her name is Eida Almuhairbi, a top inventor female in the world for the year 2013. Last year only, she registered 15 patents.
