Kuwait- Health Min. meets Tunisian PM, WHO chief


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Health Minister Ali Al-Obaidi, accompanied by World Health Organization Director General Margaret Chan, met Monday with Tunisian Prime Minister Mahdi Jumaa on fringes of WHO's Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean meeting, which began last night.

Al-Obaidi said His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was particularly keen on the success of the WHO meeting due to the high level of participants and importance of topics.

The minister added in press remarks this session was also important due to critical health issues, among them communicable and non-communicable diseases facing the world today.

Al-Obaidi noted the participants will also review current health situation in the region and health challenges facing countries in the region.

Last night, the 61 session of the WHO's Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean kicked off with representatives from 22 regional countries.

The Kuwaiti delegation is due to address the conference on the eradication of polio, achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the regional strategy to confronting AIDS, as well as other global health-related matters.
