(MENAFN- The Peninsula) 'Our Prophet, Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH)', a first-of-its-kind exhibition in Qatar dedicated to the life of Prophet Mohammed, opened in Ezdan Mall yesterday.
Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani launched the exhibition, attended by VIPs and guests.
Engineer Ibrahim Fakhro, organiser of the exhibition, told this daily that he was happy about the turnout at the opening event and the interest the exhibition is generating from people.
"The opening was great. There were many VIPs and there was big interest for people to come.
"This is the first time that an exhibition on the Prophet has been done in Qatar. If it generates good interest, we would probably host this exhibition yearly in different locations for different people to come," he added.
The exhibition showcases major phases of the Prophet's life, including the Prophethood in Madinah Al Munawara.
Some parts of the town displayed include the Prophet's mosque, market, horse racing field and other natural features such as the mountains surrounding the town, valleys and trenches.
A highlight of the expo is the route taken by the Prophet's camel and the house of Abu Ayob Al Ansari who hosted the Prophet when he first arrived in Madinah.
Another focus of the expo is the mosque of the Prophet at the beginning of the Islamic Dawa when Qebla was directed towards Al Aqsa mosque in Al Quds (Jerusalem) and the change made in the direction of Qebla to Makkah.
The expo also displays the house of the Prophet, which, like other installations, was made of construction materials used during his time.
Eighteen portraits demonstrating developments of the prophetic stages, major historical events, the death of the Prophet, his lifestyle with his wives, a portrait for the Prophet's miracles with elaborations in English and Arabic, and other relevant features and events are also displayed.
Documentary films about major events in Makkah and its main features as well as films about the early stages of the Prophet's mission to his migration to Makkah or Hejra, the construction of the Prophet's mosque - materials used, measurements and ways of construction, are also shown.
Other films shown depicted the battles of Badr and Al Khandak and the death of the Prophet, his grave and the grave of his companion Abu Baker Al Siddik.
What is special about the expo is that it concretises ideas about the Prophet discussed in books, Fakhro said.
"Some of the interesting highlights of the expo are Makkah, Madinah, the Prophet's house and the Prophet's mosque. We study them in books but now this is a chance for people to see them which is better than just reading about them," he said.
He said while some pieces were from his personal collection, others including the mock-ups were made and brought from Madinah.
He said the expo would be very valuable "for families to come to with their children. There will be 10 people to explain about the Prophet."
Asked on the choice of the expo's venue, he said, it was intended to reach out to more people. "I thought this is the best place as it would attract more people to come. Mall visitors may visit and spend some time in the expo.
"In addition, the expo is open from morning until late night and there's ample parking space."
Malik Qaiser Awan, General Manager, Ezdan Mall, said: "We are happy and excited that the exhibition of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is taking place in our mall. It's a first-of- its-kind event in Qatar which will probably help educate lots of Muslims and non-Muslims on the journey of the Prophet."
The exhibition, which is supported by Al Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre, Al Asmakh Charity and Ezdan Mall and is open every day from 10am to 10pm until November 16.
