S. Korea's international airline traffic hits 9.1 percent in Q3

(MENAFN) South Korea's government said that the country's international airline traffic grew 9.1 percent from a year earlier in the third quarter, QNA reported.

During the citing period, the number of international flights to and from South Korea registered 98.133, according to the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The ministry confirmed that the increase was due to 2014's Asian Games held in the country's port city of Incheon, noting the number of international flights to and from Incheon International Airport, the main gateway to the capital Seoul, rose over 8 percent annually.

The increase comes in a time of a fast growing number of tourists from China. The number of Chinese tourists to the country's southern island of Jeju grew from 175,000 in 2009 to over 1.81 million last year.
