Turkey's PM stresses Wise Men cmte importance for "internal peace"

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) urkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Sunday underscored importance of the Wise Men committee for achieving "internal peace" process, saying the committee included figures from different political parties as well as different religions and ethnic backgrounds.

Addressing the Board of Wise Men meeting in Istanbul's Dolmabahce Palace on Sunday, Davutoglu said that internal peace is a unique process, adding the country tried all means to solve the Kurdish issue.

He went to say that "either to choose a way that could unite our land based on peace and mutual respect or to be under the influence of terrorist and radical groups that declare war on pluralism.

"The first way is our choice." He said the government wanted to consult the Wise Men committee and listen to its opinions and planned future contributions to the practical steps to be taken in the next phase.

He added that the government instructed all governors to preserve discipline nationwide, noting that many Turkish classes had been wronged over the last 100 years.

If such classes, he pointed out, had committed violence, this would have worsen situation in Turkey more than current status in Iraq and Syria.

The process of "internal peace" in Turkey started two years ago through holding indirect negotiations between the government and the leader of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) Abdullah Ocalan who has been jailed since 1999.

The first phase of the peace process included halting activities of the PKK and withdrawal from Turkey, while the second phase includes a host of steps aimed at backing democracy across the country and helping people, who are not involved in violence, come back home.
