New York NY USA (October 18 2014) — It would appear the crab mentality of certain journalists is alive and well and having its desired effect. Is it fear jealousy or perhaps revenge that motivates the constant pulling down instead of celebrating another’s success? Noted journalist and author Randy Jernigan has made a conscientious career change that has put him on a more positive path in regards to his reporting and not surprisingly he is being confronted and besmirched by those who seemingly can’t abide achievement in another.

Jernigan has always been a deeply religious person and now has a sincere desire to promote the positive rather than serve up the sensational and sordid deeds of the rich and famous. This change of heart came at a critical time when his life literally hung in the balance. When he entered the ER with life-threatening symptoms it became a time of serious reflection not only for his physical state but for his emotional and spiritual as well.

“I didn’t want to die” remembers Jernigan “and I knew in that moment I needed to make some drastic changes.” This transforming event encompassed not only losing 160 pounds but leaving a writing genre that has been his livelihood for almost three decades.

Just as Jernigan is refusing to write about the personal lives of those he interviews he is asking that his private life including his religion not be the subject of speculation or harassment. “I’m in a good place spiritually and happy where I’m at” states Jernigan. “I feel close to God and don’t feel I need to answer to anyone regarding my past or present status in or out of any church.” In fact some of the questions and demands have caused harm to friends and family. “Judge me on my merits not on where I do or don’t attend Church.”

Assumptions lead to rumor which always leads to misinformation – the very thing Jernigan is trying to eliminate from his writings and his life.

There are those media outlets who excel in twisting a story to fit their agenda and a recent interview with Jernigan produced just such a distortion. While anticipating an unbiased mostly positive article regarding his first upcoming fan book Jernigan was stunned to read the sensationalized and misrepresented spin all over the internet. What was most disturbing was that his words had been “turned inside out” which ended up causing him issues with publishing his first installment on time.

“These online tabloids attributed statements to me as if I had said this stuff. The worst most painful statement was that I had referred to Dan (Daniel Radcliffe) as an alcoholic and that he had some sort of brain disorder that would stop production on the Harry Potter set.

When I read these things I felt sick” said Jernigan. “I was shocked at what had been attributed to me. I would never have said these things. Anyone that knows me well knows that I have great respect and admiration for Dan and his work-he’s a an amazing person that has done a lot to give back to the world. Not only as an actor but as a humanitarian.”

This was one more confirmation to Jernigan that it was time to make some major changes in his career path–and he has made changes.

The Columbus News Online recently reported that besides writing books Jernigan has sold a screenplay to a film company and will venture into the world of acting taking on a supporting role in a new comedy film. The piece also reported that Jernigan recently completed a “slasher film” for a director friend that will be featured in a San Diego Film Festival in 2015 and is working on another film as an associate producer.

“All I ask of my readers is that I’m judged on my merit as a writer and as a person” says Jernigan.
