Tension Continues in Hong Kong Despite Government Offer


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Beijing October 19 (QNA) - Tension is still running high in Hong Kong despite a government offer for talks with pro-democracy protesters who scuffled with police in a bid to restore areas they had occupied earlier.



Thousands of people gathered at dawn today to occupy part of a road in the busy Colon district where fierce clashes took police with police officers who tried to disperse them.

Hong Kong police said four students and policemen were injured.



The protesters led by students who demanded democratic election of the post of Hong Kong governor and staged sit-ins in the city's streets for three weeks Last night the students said there should be no attempts to end their sit-ins before the talks scheduled to be held on Tuesday.(QNA)
