Dubai: Alubond Tigers outclassed Ibsons CC by seven wickets to lift the Mulk Holdings T20 Challenge Cup at the ICC Global Cricket Academy grounds on Friday.

The tournament was organised by Ajman Cricket Council under the patronage of Shaikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi.

The final which an all-Ajman affair turned out to be a one-sided game as Ibsons were restricted to a paltry score of 100 by the Alubond Tigers.

Ibsons got a jolt in the very first over and they never recovered from that. They losing wickets at regular intervals failed to any build partnerships. Rohan (26) Shehzad (24) and Misbah (21) were the contributors with the bat for Ibsons. Nasir Aziz Sultan Ahmed and Amjad claimed two wickets each.

Alubond Tigers’ openers Prasanth Braggs and Shehzad Manna started the proceedings with a flurry of big shots. Both the openers scored 47 and 38 respectively laced with five sixes and nine fours as Alubond Tigers coasted to victory in the 11th over.

Shaji Ul Mulk Secretary General of Ajman Cricket Council while talking to Khaleej Times said: “It was the first tournament of the season and this victory means a lot to us because there were top teams of the UAE including Danube Interface and Grand Midwest Hotels etc.”

Shehzad who was named man-of-the-final said: “It was one of the best tournaments in the UAE and the teams played a quality cricket. We were up against a very good team but our bowlers were too hot to handle for them. “After restricting them to 100 runs we were able to play freely and finish the match in 11th over. This type of tournaments will go a long way to develop the cricket in the UAE.”

The tournament’s best bowler Nasir Aziz said: “It was a team effort to win such a big tournament. It was the third Mulk Holding T20 tournament and I have won two best bowler awards. “Our team gelled well as we have won some tight matches to reach the final. Our bowlers did a fine job to restrict Ibsons to a low score in the final.”

The final was attended by the dignitaries of the UAE cricket fraternity and delegates of Mulk Holdings. The winners’ trophy was given away by Dr Shafi Ul Mulk and Amair Ul Mulk joint venture partners of Mulk Holdings along with a cash prize of Dh15000.

Other major prizes which included cash prizes of Dh500 along with the trophy were best batsman (Habib Gazi of Ibsons) best bowler (Nasir Aziz of Alubond Tigers) and man-of-the-final (Shehzad of Alubond Tigers) Salman Babar of Interface Transworld was declared the player-of-the-tournament.
