Bangladesh's trade balance returns to deficit in August


(MENAFN) According to a central bank official, Bangladesh's trade balance has again returned to a deficit after exports growth dipped in August, Xinhua reported.

The Bangladesh Bank (BB) official said Bangladesh registered a trade surplus for July, its first since its independence four decades ago, but trade balance has returned to deficit in August.

The country's import payment was USD6.089 billion in the first two months of 2014-15 fiscal year (July 2014-June 2015), while earning from exports was USD5.090 billion during the period.

Official statistics showed that Bangladesh's imports in the first two months of 2014-15 fiscal year grew 5.29 percent from a year ago, while annual exports growth dipped to 1.94 percent.
