After initial reluctance to accept alternative medicine as a form of treatment homeopathy is fast gaining popularity among Arabs and the UAE nationals.

According to experts people are resorting to homeopathy to treat allergies and diseases like hyperacidity. However a vast majority of the patients come in for treatment of skin and hair related diseases.

Dr Batra the founder chairman of Dr Batra’s Healthcare told Khaleej Times that he’d like to sell affordable products that will not have any detrimental side effects. “When we launched in Dubai almost all our customers were Asian expatriates. Now we are seeing a steep rise in the Arab community visiting us” said Dr Batra.

“We have about four clinics in the UAE and globally we have treated 1.3 million patients ... I think one of the reasons that there has been a healthy acceptance of homeopathy as a treatment is because there has been a cross-border influx of information — where Asian patients told their Arab counterparts about the benefits of homeopathy and they wanted to try it out for themselves.”

With the growth in popularity of the clinic and the brand Dr Batra has also launched nine uniquely formulated hair and skin care products in Dubai.

“The market is a very competitive one and playing against the bigger market leaders is a challenge but people need to be given the option to use herbal products with limited or no chance of side effects.

“We’re entering a Dh1 billion hair and skin care market and we have partnered with distribution partners like SMS and NMC Trading who will play a major role in bringing our products to the GCC and the UAE” said Dr Batra. “So far we have placed the products in 50 stores in the UAE. We aim to reach 5000 stores by March 2017 and expect to reach a turnover of Dh10 million.”
