UAE- KFA chief: Qadsia's AFC Cup title "valuable gift"

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait Football Association (KFA) President Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah praised AFC Cup champions Qadsia, who became champions for the first time in their third final in five years on Saturday.

Qadsia beat Iraq's Irbil, 4-2, in a penalty shoot-out at Maktoum bin Rashed Al-Maktoum Stadium following a goalless draw in both original and extra time, after reaching the final last year.

The title maintains Kuwaiti dominance over the competition for the third year in a row, after Kuwait SC took their second and third record titles over the last two editions.

The keepers on both sides made a save each, but it was Iraqi international Hawar Mulla Mohammad's miss that handed Qadsia the title.

Sheikh Talal described the accomplishment as a "valuable gift" to fans of the club, and told reporters he dedicates the win to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The victory is a welcomed confidence push for the Kuwaiti national side to do well in the upcoming regional Gulf Cup of nations, he said.

He thanked the Asian Football Confederation for its organisation of the tournament, Irbil for its performance and the United Arab Emirates for its hosting of the match.

Meanwhile, Qadsia striker Saif Al-Hashan took man of the match.
