Qatar- QC distributes 5,500 school bags


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Charity has distributed 5,500 school bags to Syrian students across Jordan at a cost of QR340,700.

The bags contained equipment including books, pencils, pens, erasers, pencil sharpeners and crayons. The project is aimed to ease the burden of tuition costs for families.

The distribution was made over a period of two weeks and included several provinces of the Kingdom of Jordan, including Amman, and the governorates of Irbid, Zarqa Governorate, Ajloun, Jerash, Karak, Tafileh, Maan and Mafraq.

The project was carried out within the framework of the 'Competitors 2 Campaign', which is estimated at QR7.113m, and include the construction of mobile homes at a cost of QR2m, funding for house rents valued at QR1,928,000, food aid worth QR1,536,000, development projects worth QR400,000, furniture and electricity worth around QR400,000 and health projects valued at QR400,000.

Through this project QC aims to alleviate the suffering of Syrian refugee families in Jordan by facilitating the school attendance of their children, contributing to the integration of these families into the community, preserving the dignity and humanity of the refugees by dealing with them in a modern manner that respects their human dignity and providing them with the basic necessities for a decent life.

QC coordinated with centres and schools in an order to facilitate the distribution, keeping the bags in storage until the distribution took place.

Small, medium and large bags were distributed according to the child's age, sex and the level of need of the school, and then the benefiting families were coordinated with in order to determine the place and time of distribution. This project was implemented as a result of QC's belief that basic education is an essential right.

The young Qataris who participated in the 'Competitors 2' contest made two visits to Jordan in the first half of this year, helping launch projects for the benefit of Syrian refugees valued at over QR7m funded by donation contests.

Among these projects was the opening of the largest mosque in Camp Zaatari, accommodating over 500 worshipers. An ultrasound screening machine was also provided, facilitating tests for around 2,000 patients a month, around 70 a day of whom will be pregnant women. Medicines were distributed to the most important health centres in the camp, as well as household supplies and equipment for Syrian families in Amman, including refrigerators, dishwashers, gas, brushes and kitchen utensils. This was in addition to care for orphans, distributing food and drinking water, the opening of another mosque in the Nadha area of Mafraq, distributions of copies of the Holy Quran and special gifts to QC sponsored orphans in Amman including clothes, toys and cash.

'Competitors 2' aims to engage the community in a unique way in charitable work through entertainment and competitions in the form of practical and theoretical tasks, and the dissemination of the culture and values of charity work through media and marketing campaigns and public competitions. It also seeks to highlight the technical capacity that has been reached by charitable and humanitarian organisations in general, and within QC in particular, and works on increasing its quantity and effectiveness and promoting community solidarity by bringing young people together in humanitarian work and philanthropy.
