Author Ginny Musante Erickson believes they do. Having worked as a volunteer for Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) Erickson has seen firsthand that "only puppies" like only children face challenges in socialization and learning proper puppy etiquette.
In her first children’s book The Only Puppy Erickson delights adults and children alike with her adorable only puppy who can’t seem to do anything right. Born as the only puppy in the litter she has no one to play with and doesn’t seem to understand the rules. Filled with delightful illustrations any child is sure to love this book offers an excellent learning tool for “only” children who often need extra exposure to other children due to the lack of siblings to help them along in their development.
In addition a portion of the revenue generated from the sale of this book will be donated to Canine Companions for Independence. Canine Companions provides service dogs to open doors turn on lights and pull wheel chairs for children and adults with disabilities. The story of The Only Puppy was inspired by actual events that occurred when the author was a volunteer raising an “only puppy” for Canine Companions.

Ginny Musante Erickson lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband Ray and golden retriever Roxy. She has raised a number of puppies to become service dogs including the one that inspired this story.
