Putin, Abe Discuss Situation in Ukraine


(MENAFN- QNA) Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Ukraine with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Milan on Friday.

The two leaders discussed, among other issues, the situation in Ukraine, Russian News Agency (Tass) quoted Kremlin as saying on Friday. "During the meeting, Russia’s president and Japan’s prime minister shared the opinion about a necessary further dialogue between Moscow and Tokyo." Japan’s Kyodo news agency quoted Abe as saying during the meeting with Vladimir Putin that Tokyo hoped the Russian authorities will use their influence to make sure the truce in Ukraine is observed.

The 10-minute meeting between Putin and Abe in Milan was their first meeting since February, where Japan’s prime minister participated in the official opening of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
