Premier Najib Welcomes Malaysia's Election to UN Security Council

(MENAFN- QNA) Prime Minister Najib Razak on Friday said the election of Malaysia as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) affirms the country's policy of moderation.

"Malaysia has a strong record of promoting peace, moderation and security around the world," he said in a statement. "Our brokering of peace in the southern Philippines is one example." Malaysia's elections to the UNSC came two days after police concluded a three-day sweep against suspected militants that led to the arrest of 14 people, including a government bureaucrat, who were allegedly planning to join Islamic State militants in Syria, dpa reported.

Aside from Malaysia, other countries elected to the UNSC were Venezuela, Angola, New Zealand and Spain.
