(MENAFN- QNA) German Chancellor Angela Merkel is calling on Russia to fully implement the ceasefire agreement with Ukraine.
"Russia must make a decisive contribution to the de-escalation" of tensions in eastern Ukraine, Merkel said in a statement released before talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko at a summit in Milan.
International sanctions imposed on Russia are important, but not an end in itself, Merkel says, adding that she is opposed to measures that could hinder dialogue with Russia.
"We do not want any doubt that the violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity and the violation of international law have consequences," ahe added.
