Godolphins 2012 St Leger winner Encke dies


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai is deeply saddened at the loss of his Classic winner.

Godolphin’s 2012 St Leger winner Encke died after sustaining a hind limb injury during a routine exercise the racing stable owned by Dubai’s ruler said on Tuesday.



The five-year old horse who never finished out of the first three in nine starts could not be saved due to complications following the injury trainer Charlie Appleby said on the stable’s website (www.godolphin.com).



“His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai is deeply saddened at the loss of his Classic winner” Appleby said. “Encke was a talented racehorse and will be sorely missed as he was one of the yard’s favourites.”



Encke which denied Camelot the English Triple Crown in 2012 returned to racing this year finishing third in the Irish St Leger in September. It has earned $621314 since its debut in Doncaster in 2011.
