S. Korea, Australia Hold Talks for Defense Cooperation

(MENAFN- QNA) Defense chiefs of South Korea and Australia held a meeting Wednesday to explore ways to deepen bilateral military cooperation, Seoul's defense ministry said.

During the talks held in Seoul, South Korean Defense Minister Han Min-koo and his Australian counterpart David Johnston "exchanged opinions on the security situation of the Korean Peninsula and discussed ways to boost cooperation in such fields as joint military training, education and defense industries," the ministry said in a statement.

It is the third time that the defense chiefs of the two nations have sat down for talks. The first such meeting was held in December 2011 in Canberra, South Korea's News Agency (Yonhap) reported.

"The meeting is expected to serve as a chance for the two to share thoughts on how significant bilateral security cooperation is and to bolster concrete cooperation in diverse military areas," the ministry noted.
