China's inflation dips to 1.6 percent in September

(MENAFN) Custom data showed that China's inflation dipped to 1.6 percent in September, missing analysts' forecasts and marking the lowest record in almost five years, AFP reported.

Compared to the month of August, the world's second-largest economy's inflation slowed from 2 percent, figures released by the Chinese National Bureau of Statistics showed.

The latest figures give authorities more room to take steps to stimulate the economy, as statistics suggest that Chinese expansion, maintaining its slowest pace in more than a decade, is weakening.

ANZ analysts attributed the sluggish price increases to the country's ongoing fight against corruption and a government austerity drive, adding that "soft inflation profile heightens the risk of deflation."
