Qatar Stresses Keenness on Promoting Women's Rights


(MENAFN- QNA) The State Qatar has confirmed its keenness on promoting and protecting the human rights of women, and building their capacity, to have an essential role in the process of peace and development as the founding mechanism of progress towards all the Millennium development goals (MDGs).

It also stressed that the issue of the promotion of women's rights is linked to the consecration of the rights and duties of the family as the natural and fundamental unit of society.

This came in Qatar's statement delivered by Fahd Mohammed Al Khayareen, member of the delegation of the State of Qatar participating in the the 69the session of the UN General Assembly, before the Third Committee of the United Nations "social, humanitarian and Cultural Committee" on the item of "empowerment of women".

Al Khayareen noted that women around the world continue to suffer from poverty, marginalization, discrimination and lack of equal opportunity, as violence against women and girls in all its gross violation of human rights, is widespread and a major obstacle to women's empowerment, the achievement of the Millennium development goals, and the enjoyment of fundamental rights.

He expressed grave concern about the situation of women in conflict areas, and areas under occupation, where women and girls are subject to the worst kinds of violence as a result of those conflicts, where women bear most of the burden because of violations of the human rights .(MORE)
