Magnitude 7.4 quake strikes off El Salvador no damage reported


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The quake struck 66 miles (106 km) south-southeast of the city of Usulutan the US Geological Survey said.

Reuters: A magnitude 7.4 quake struck late on Monday off the coast of El Salvador but there was no risk of a destructive widespread tsunami the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.



There was a risk of “hazardous tsunami waves” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a revised alert.



The quake struck 66 miles (106 km) south-southeast of the city of Usulutan the US Geological Survey said.



The area of a possible tsunami included the coasts of Nicaragua Honduras and El Salvador within 300 km (180 miles) of the epicenter the warning center said.



It did not give details of any damage but the quake was shallow at just 5.6 miles (9 km).



Usulutan was badly damaged by earthquakes in February 2001.
