Bid to smuggle Dh3m worth of drugs foiled


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The narcotics were extracted from secret pockets of an Asian passengers bag at the Terminal 2 of the Dubai International Airport.

The Dubai Customs foiled a bid to smuggle 6.25kg of heroin and 46.2g of opium worth Dh3 million via Terminal 2 of the Dubai International Airport.



The narcotics were extracted from secret pockets of an Asian passenger’s bag a senior official revealed.



Falah Khalil Al Samak Director of Terminal 2’s Passenger Operations Department said the accused raised the suspicion of customs inspectors after he arrived at the passport control point. “Baggage screening revealed secret pockets stuffed with certain items in his bag which later proved to be heroin. A second check revealed the opium.”



Al Samak said the Dubai Customs recorded 25 heroin seizures at the three terminals of the Dubai International Airport in the first nine months of the year. “These weighed 60kg while the biggest seizure of 24kg heroin worth Dh12 million was made from an Asian passenger.”
