Uzbekistan exports USD1b worth of textile products

(MENAFN) Uzbekistan, major cotton exporter, announced exporting USD1 billion worth of textile products in the current year, adding that international sales are expected to grow, AFP reported.

The announcement was made shortly after the United States criticized the tightly-controlled Central Asian country for failing to stop using forced labor in its cotton fields.

Uzbekistan officially banned child labor in its cotton fields in 2008, but the United States government said recently that the country had made no progress in its efforts to eliminate it.

"This year the total volume of exports of textile products has reached USD1 billion. Export volumes are being ramped up every year," Uzbek Prime Minister said in a statement.
