Three Sudanese men stood trial in the Court of First Instance on Sunday on the charge of possessing counterfeit $465300 for circulation.
The trio including two visitors and a businessman were reported to the police by a Omani national when they allegedly tried to cheat him of Dh75000. They were charged with possession of fake dollar bills for circulation and attempted fraud.
“They claimed they had a large quantity of bills which bear the United Nations seal. They alleged they were willing to give me the bills but they needed Dh75000 to buy a chemical solution to spray and clean the bills of that seal” the Omani said during the Public Prosecution’s investigation.
The trio was arrested on August 7 by Al Muraqqabat police with the help and coordination of the Omani. They showed stiff resistance and tried to run away when the police raided the complainant’s car and found the defendants in possession of the fake bills. -marykhaleejtimes.com
