(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The 38-year-old Indian woman who had access to her employers bank account is accused of defrauding the woman trader using forged and falsified bills.

A manager who had been given a power of attorney by her Kuwaiti employer to run her art gallery allegedly abused that power and embezzled more than Dh247000 a court heard.

The 38-year-old Indian woman who had access to her employer’s bank account is accused of defrauding the woman trader 36 of a total of Dh247000 in forged and falsified bills. She faced charges of forgery breach of trust and fraud in the Court of First Instance.

The accused allegedly committed the fraud between February 2012 and July 2013.

According to prosecution records in most instances the accused would tamper with the original bills and increase the figures to embezzle the difference. She would also falsify bills with some service providers; it reportedly later emerged that they had no business dealings with the complainant.

In one instance she allegedly forged a medical insurance bill worth Dh4635 in the name of her company. A letter from the insurance company said they never supplied the defendant’s former workplace with any medical services or medical coverage.

The alleged fraud was first exposed by a French sales manager who ran the company after the accused left it.

In November last year he found from a company specialised in installing and maintaining security cameras that they had issued a Dh1500 bill for maintenance services as opposed to the Dh4000 bill kept in the gallery’s records.

A formal audit was run later which concluded that she had embezzled over Dh247000.
