Malaysia Industrial Output Rises in August


(MENAFN- QNA) Malaysia's industrial production expanded 6.5% in August from a year earlier, beating market expectations, mainly due to gains in electricity generation and manufacturing activity, official data showed.

The Department of Statistics said that the industrial production index which measures output from mines, power plants and factories rose at a revised rate of 0.6% on-year in July, according to the Malaysian (Bernama) News Agency.

The index climbed 3.4% when compared to July on a seasonally-adjusted basis, the department said.

Output from the key manufacturing sector rose 7.4% from a year earlier, while the electricity index increased 8.4% in August. Mining activities increased 3.6% when compared to the same month last year.

On a seasonally-adjusted basis, the manufacturing and electricity sectors grew 2.6% and 2.5% respectively, while the mining index surged 9.4% in August from July.
