Egypt, Japan discuss cementing bilateral ties


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Fostering bilateral economic, trade and investment ties was the focus of talks held in Cairo on Saturday between Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and visiting Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Minoru Kiuchi.

During the meeting, Shoukri highlighted the role of Japan, and in particular the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for providing technical aid for major projects in Egypt, such as the Deirut Barrages in Upper Egypt and the Grand Egyptian Museum near the Pyramids Plateau ion Giza, Ministry spokesman Badr Abdul-Ati said in a press statement.

He added that Cairo is looking forward to effective participation from Japan in a conference for supporting the Egyptian economy due in February, 2015.

According to the statement, Shoukri stressed the importance of collaborating regional and international efforts to combat terrorism.

For his part, the Japanese Minister lauded Egypt's major role for reaching a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as hosting a conference for reconstruction in the Strip, the spokesman said.

He also referred to the progress realized in bilateral ties.
