Coalition warplanes bomb militants' strongholds in Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Military aircraft of the Arab-international coalition have carried out fresh raids targeting Islamic militants' strongholds in Syria, amid continuing fighting for control of the northern key town of Ain Al-Arab (Kobane).

The warplanes struck positions of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the Islamic Al-Nusra group in rural regions north of Al-Raqqa town, located in North Syria. They also targeted ISIL troop's concentrations in Ain Al-Arab and surrounding areas, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in a new report on Sunday.

The Syrian monitoring reported continuing fighting between the ISIL militiamen and Kurdish fighters in and around Ain Al-Arab that has been besieged by the militants since September 16. The ISIL suffered casualties when they made new bids to burst into the Kurds' defenses.

Meanwhile, Kurdish security authorities enrolled dozens of Kurds aged below 30 to join the bitter fight against the militants, seeking to crush the Kurds' defenses in the contested town and tighten their grip on northwestern areas of Syria.

The monitoring group reported sporadic fights at other axes, namely in the Aleppo regions between government forces and a coalition of armed opposition groups. At least eight people were killed in these clashes. It also reported ongoing violence on outskirts of the capital, Damascus.

Coalition aircraft of allied Arab and foreign states have been hitting the militants' strongholds in Syria in a bid to contain their expanding influence in Syria and Iraqi regions.

Washington, which had adopted a policy of disengagement in Syria and Iraq, has recently revised its policy and started building an international coalition to annihilate the ISIL, which killed at least four foreign hostages and threatened Western interests in the region.
