Saudi's murder in Turkey sparks alert

(MENAFN- Arab News) The Kingdom has called on Turkey to probe the recent killing of a Saudi in the southern district of Mardin.

Mardin has been the scene of clashes between protesters and Turkish security forces over the past few days.

Saudi Ambassador to Turkey Adel Mirdad said that the Turkish government is being urged to investigate and apprehend those responsible.

Mirdad said he met with the brother of the deceased who had arrived in Turkey to receive the body.

'It seems that the incident was criminal in nature. We are calling on all Saudis in Turkey to be cautious and stay away from areas where demonstrations are taking place' said Mirdad.

He said Saudi citizens should contact the embassy in Ankara or the consulate in Istanbul if they need to file a complaint or are harassed in any way. He urged citizens to register their passports and contact information on the ministry's website.

According to media reports from Turkey the murdered Saudi citizen is 45-year-old Fahad Ibrahim Al-Doweirij who had been in the area because he was visiting his wife's relatives for Eid Al-Adha. His brother-in-law works in the construction sector in Kiziltepe a town in the Mardin district. The murdered citizen was trying to travel from Mardin from Kiziltepe to complete visa procedures and purchase plane tickets to return to the Kingdom.

Meanwhile Mirdad said the embassy had not received any official information about the arrival of a Saudi scholarship student from Australia Mishal Al-Sauhaimi in Turkey.
