Life term for 9 in Kerala moral police murder case


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A district sessions court in Kerala on Thursday sentenced nine persons to life imprisonment in the states first moral police murder case.

The case pertained to the brutal murder of a non-resident Keralite (NRK) named Shahid Bava a native of Kodiyathur village near Mukkam in Calicut district. The 27-year-old youth was beaten up by 15 persons after tying his hands and legs to an electric post on the night of November 9 2011 for allegedly having an affair with a married woman at Kodiyathur.



The Special Additional Sessions Court at Calicut has acquitted four persons while one person is still at large. Judge S Krishna Kumar has also imposed fine of Rs25 000 on convicts three and four and Rs5000 on others.



The convicts are first accused Kodiyathur Abdurahman 54 third accused Abdul Kareem fourth accused Abdul Nasar fifth accused Fayaz Aboobacker sixth accused Najid Hyder eighth accused Rashid Abdurahiman ninth accused Hijas Rahman alias Katta tenth accused Muhammed Hamsheer and eleventh accused K Shahul Hameed.



Bava who was working in Gulf had come on leave for his marriage. He was attacked while returning from the house of the woman. A seriously injured Bava died the next day.



Police had probed for the involvement of extremist elements in the incident but it was revealed that it was a clear case of moral policing.



Curiously the police found during the course of their investigation that some of the convicts themselves were involved in illicit relations with married women.
