(MENAFN- The Peninsula) As the week-long Eid Al Adha shows and activities in shopping centres ended yesterday, managements of malls expressed satisfaction over visitor turnout during the holidays.
Over a dozen shows in major malls, including City Center Doha, Lagoona, Hyatt Plaza, Landmark, The Mall and Al Khor Mall, led to an increase in footfalls which also spiked sales in shops.
"We had on an average 25,000 visitors daily during the week which increased sales," Fuad Shaqadan, Leasing and Marketing Manager, Hyatt Plaza, told this daily yesterday. "Compared to other days, footfalls increased by at least 30 percent which spiked sales in various outlets," he said, adding that visitors had been happy with the shows.
An official from Lagoona Mall was of the same view on the increase in the number of mall goers and sales. "The rise in the number of visitors was due to the fact that people stayed in Qatar during Eid Al Adha compared to last Eid Al Fitr when they preferred to spend vacation in other countries," he said.
Fifteen shows and activities, many of which were brought to Qatar for the first time, were presented as part of Qatar Tourism Authority's (QTA) Eid Al Adha celebrations.
They included Dora's Ballet Adventures, freestyle football, traditional Arda dance, Fritters show, Shaun the Sheep, Adventure Time, Steve Kaos, Bubblez and Balloonz show, Dan Druff Circus, Mr. Potato Head, Sweets for Kids show, Tanoura dancer, speed painter, oriental parade and face painting.
Meanwhile, a large number of people visited Souq Waqif on the last day of its Eid Al Adha festival.
The souq saw 300,000 visitors during the festival, the management said yesterday.
The final staging of the musical play Cinderella drew applause from the crowd at Al Rayyan Theatre as well as the last concert of Sout Al Rayyan's music festival.
Games for children attracted a large number of families while stilt walkers entrained visitors in the alley. The circus which featured acts such as Flying trapeze, Russian swing, magic and illusionist, Amazing Cycles, Globe of Danger and Wheel of Death, was also a crowd-puller.
Folk music performances by local bands and a traditional Arab wedding celebration also witnessed a large number of spectators keen to experience Qatari and Arab culture.
