Pakistani PM to meet top security panel on India firing

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Accused of a dovish stance towards India by his critics Sharif has come under increasing pressure to respond more aggressively to what they term as Indian aggression on LoC.

Amid escalating exchange of cross-border firing along the Line of Control in Kashmir and working borders between Pakistan and India during the past over one week Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has convened a meeting of the National Security Council on Friday to discuss the evolving situation.

All three services’ chiefs and senior ministers and adviser will attend.

Accused of a “dovish stance” towards India by his critics Sharif has come under increasing pressure to respond more aggressively to what they term as Indian aggression on LoC.

According to Pakistani media reports citing military spokesman in general and para-military Chenab Rangers in particular 12 civilians have been killed and about 20000 scared out of their homes along border villages due to “unprovoked indiscriminate shelling” by Indian security forces. At the same time they mention “the befitting response” from Rangers to silence Indian guns.

Sharif’s bitter opponents and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday night asked the premier why is he keeping a discreet silence over Indian violations and US drone attacks.

“The reason is obvious” he said and added “he has in mind his family’s business interest in India and to protect billions of ill-gotten wealth in Western banks” said Imran who is exerting immense pressure through huge public rallies and daily ‘dharna’ (sit-in) in Islamabad on Sharif to resign.

Imran said he too favours peace and dialogue with India but the premier must condemn Indian actions at a time when Pakistan army is knee deep in fighting terrorists in North Waziristan.

The scion of Bhutto family Bilawal Bhutto Zardari (26) who is being launched in politics by his father Asif Ali Zardari has been more vociferous in rubbing the Kashmir issue hoping it would revive PPP’s fortunes in Punjab where it had virtually been wiped in elections last year.
