Dubai: A 27-year-old farmer who possessed heroin for trafficking has had his life term and deportation order upheld by the Court of Appeals. The Pakistani convict was arrested on June 28 last year with 498 grams of heroin in his possession.The Court of First Instance convicted him of drug trafficking in June this year.
The farmer denied the charge in court. However he admitted in the investigation that he was doing the job for a Central Prison inmate. He had picked up a bag containing the quantity from a garbage bin in Fujairah and then headed to Dubai.
He was told that the man who would pick up the drugs would pay for the taxi. He was also promised a commission. He said he wanted to apply for a driving license. The inmate a Pakistani is serving a sentence in another drug case.
The Anti-Narcotics officers of the Dubai Police caught the farmer in a sting operation in International City in Al Aweer after receiving a tip-off. “Our informant made contact with him and claimed he wanted to buy the capsules stuffed with heroin. We had given him (informant) a sum of money belonging to the police” a police major said
The farmer was taken to the Narcotics department after he was caught red-handed selling the drugs to the undercover narcotics officer in the car parking area of Dragon Mart.
A police corporal said the informant bought the quantity from the farmer for Dh13110. “When we raided the informant’s car the accused threw the sum he had just been paid under his feet. The informant showed us the bag with the drugs he collected from the farmer. There were 60 capsules containing heroin.”
The defendant did not appeal the verdict at the Court of Cassation.
