Ras Al Khaimah to get 3 more vehicle registration centres

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The move is aimed to reduce congestion and long queues of vehicles at the only such centre in the Gasidat area.

Ras Al Khaimah — The Ras Al Khaimah Traffic Police will soon open three more centres for vehicle checks licensure and registration to meet the monthly rush.

Col Nasser Mohammed Matter Director of the Vehicle and Driver Licensing Department said the move is aimed to reduce congestion and long queues of vehicles at the only such centre in the Gasidat area. “Sometimes there will be more than 1000 vehicles in queue particularly in the beginning of every month.”

Some motorists may wait for three to four hours but some of them fail to go through the required checking due to the end of the working hours he added.

“Motorists have been upset because of the long waiting hours to get the required service and hence we had to open these three new checking centres in different areas of the emirate.”

Moza Al Muhairi supervisor of the Shamel vehicle testing and registration centre said they check some 500 vehicles a day.

“Our 21 staff technicians are testing up to 7000 vehicles a month on four inspection lines. More technicians will join work to meet the rush.”

Saeed Al Mazrouie Emirati said he went to the Shamel station to test his vehicle four days back to renew his expired registration card before the end of the one-month grace period. “I was shocked with the long queues of vehicles waiting on the four inspection lines and I had to wait for some four hours.”

Essam Al Shehi Emirati said he had to go to a nearby emirate to renew his registration card because the only vehicle inspection station in the Gasidat area was overcrowded.

“It took me only 30 minutes to finish everything (in the other emirate) where more spaces and lines are available for vehicle inspection.”
