FirstGroup loses rail contract to Abellio

(MENAFN) FirstGroup's train business suffered severely in Britain after losing a contract to run rail services in Scotland to Dutch-owned Abellio, Oman Observer reported.

The transportation company's shares fell by 7.5 percent after the company said it would cease running ScotRail, the franchise connecting Scotland's major towns and cities.

Transport Scotland confirmed it had awarded the franchise, worth an approximate of USD9.7 billion, to Abellio, the international arm of the state-owned Dutch rail company.
