Army Soldier Killed in Northern Lebanon

(MENAFN- QNA) A Lebanese Army soldier was killed and another wounded on Thursday when two unknown assailants shot them in the northern Akkar district, the official National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The two gunmen, who were riding a motorcycle, opened fire on the soldiers at a road junction in the town of al-Rihaniyeh around 4:30 a.m. Following the attack, the military carried out patrols in the area and set up checkpoints.

The shooting sparked anger among Al-Rihaniyeh's residents, who blocked a main road to protest the deadly attack on the soldiers.

Northern Lebanon has recently witnessed a series of such attacks targeting the military personnel.

The army had clamped down on local militias and ended recurring war fares in districts of the port city, Tripoli.
