Nokia to halt production at its Indian plant

(MENAFN) Finnish Nokia announced that it will halt manufacturing of all its devices at the Indian state of Chennai plant starting November 1st, QNA reported.

The decision comes as Nokia announced in September 2013 it would sell its devices and services (D&S) business, including assets in India, to Microsoft for USD7.2 billion by March 2014.

The deal was wrapped up on April 25th, but Chennai facility could not be transferred to Microsoft because of legal issues related to tax demand by Indian government.

"In absence of further orders from Microsoft, Nokia will suspend handset production at the Sriperumbudur facility from 1st November," Nokia said in a statement.
