Japan posts USD2.65b current account surplus in August

(MENAFN) Japan has posted a current account surplus for the second consecutive month in August, hitting USD2.65 billion as firms' overseas income outweighed trade deficit, Xinhua reported.

Exports in the cited period increased 1 percent from a year earlier to USD52.20 billion, while imports soared 2.3 percent to USD59.89 billion, according to the Finance Ministry.

However, the country's income from foreign sources surged 20.6 percent to USD14.05 billion, marking the second straight monthly rise, supported by dividends from FDIs.

The services sector posted a deficit of USD2.32 billion in August, but the travel balance of payments boosted as the number of foreign passenger arrivals in Japan rose 22.4 percent to 1.11 million.
