ME Airlines' passenger traffic up 11.7 percent in August

(MENAFN) Middle Eastern carriers registered a growth in passenger traffic during August, rising by 11.7 percent compared to the same month last year, and achieving the strongest growth globally, Gulf Business reported.

Across the region's carriers, capacity rose 10.3 percent while the load factor rose to reach 83 percent.

Globally, air passenger traffic showed a slight increase in demand during August, with international passenger traffic registering a growth by 6.7 percent in August with almost all regions showing signs of growth

'All regions reported an expansion in demand for air travel. And load factors were high, reflecting the fact that August is peak travel season in the Northern hemisphere,' The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said in a statement.

However, IATA said that the threat of the Ebola virus spreading across the globe might affect this growth but that the airline industry is taking its guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) and public health authorities to keep flying safe for passengers and crew.
