Philippines inflation slows to 4.4 percent in September

(MENAFN) According to the Philippine Statistics Agency (PSA), the country's inflation slowed to 4.4 percent last month from 4.9 percent registered in August, Xinhua reported.

The figures showed that the dip was attributed to slower hikes in food prices, as the increase in food prices eased to 7.8 percent in September compared to 8.7 percent a month ago.

September's statistics also showed that inflation remained high at 6.3 percent. The region continues to suffer from the prolonged effects of storm Haiyan, which affected many areas in Philippines last November.

Meanwhile, inflation in the first nine months of the current year averaged 4.4 percent, which was at the high-end of the government's target of 3 to 5 percent for 2014.
