Korea Development Institute: S. Korea Economy Showing 'Delay' in Recovery

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Seoul October 07 (QNA) - South Korea's economy is experiencing a "delay" in its recovery as some indicators point to "sluggishness" the state-run Korea Development Institute (KDI) think tank said Tuesday in a monthly report on the latest economic trends.

"Some of the recent monthly indicators show continuing sluggishness indicating a delay in the pace of overall recovery" Yonhap news agency quoted the report.

While exports have continued their upward trend KDI said domestic demand is seeing a delay in its recovery despite greater private-sector consumption.

In particular decreased corporate investment was cited as a drag on domestic demand.

"The retail sales index increased sharply but investment-related indicators posted a delayed recovery as facility investment stagnated further and construction investment decreased for civil engineering" KDI added. (QNA)
