Samsung to invest USD14.6b in semiconductor plants


(MENAFN) Samsung Electronics, the world's largest chipmaker announced investing about USD14.6 billion in establishing new semiconductor plants in Seoul, Xinhua reported.

Samsung would newly spend USD14.61 billion on setting up a new semiconductor facility in Pyeongtaek for three years from the first half of 2015, which is earlier than expected.

The submission took place in a meeting held by the South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, where 16 major companies submitted their new investment plans.

The other firms, including Hyundai Motor, LG Electronics and POSCO, submitted their new investment plans worth around USD11.99 billion, which would be launched in the second half of 2014 or 2015.
