(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Events combining culture, fun and entertainment are attracting hundreds of visitors to Heritage Village this Eid Al Adha holidays.
Fun games, circus shows, live handicraft demonstrations and folk music performances are being organised by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage at Heritage Village as part of the Eid Al Adha programme under Qatar Tourism Authority.
"Every night more than a thousand visitors, mostly children and families, come to Heritage Village this Eid Al Adha and the number is increasing because of the variety of events we have," Nasser Al Jaber, Head of Events, told this daily yesterday.
A few events at Heritage Village were cancelled during Eid Al Fitr in solidarity with the victims of atrocities in Gaza, but this time the entire venue is packed with events from 5pm until midnight.
"Compared to Eid Al Fitr, we have organised more events now such as the circus and musical performances featuring traditional songs," added Al Jaber.
Events start at 5pm at the big tent inside the village with games for children and families. They continue until 8.30pm with magic shows and European and African circus featuring performers from Russia, Ukraine and Africa.
"We have prepared gifts for children and competition for families. We are giving more than 200 gifts every day," he said.
From 9pm until midnight, local musicians attract visitors to Heritage Village with folk songs which vary every night, he added.
Qatari artisans showing the art of traditional handicraft making as well as local cuisine are present at around a dozen stalls. They remind citizens of how their ancestors lived, while giving expatriates an idea of Qatar's rich heritage and handicraft industry which flourished during the pre-oil era.
Heritage Village, with its rural setting, provides an ideal ambience for visitors to experience a slice of the creativity of local artisans in over a dozen stalls showcasing important elements of Qatari crafts and handicraft industry. The artisans display traditional wooden chests, clothes, fishing implements, weaving and henna, among others.
"It is a good idea to put up these live demonstrations for expatriates to appreciate the other side of Qatar, which is seldom seen nowadays. This provides us with an idea of the country's past and its humble beginnings," said Ashaf, a visitor.
Visitors to Heritage Village still have the chance to witness events and participate in activities from 5pm until late tonight.
