Qatar- Ras Laffan backs programme for female retirees, elderly


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme has announced sponsorship of QR500,000 for the Maqad Al Duha programme - a development programme that provides support for female retirees and senior citizens in the northern area of Qatar.

Organised by Quodorat Training and Development Centre, the program will encourage full participation of these women in community projects and meaningful activities to help ensure progress towards a developed and prosperous local community.

The goal of the Maqad Al Duha programme is to transfer between 2014 and 2016 knowledge and the experiences of elderly and retired women to a younger generation of Qataris, and activate their roles in the community as valuable contributing members.

It will also enrich their relationships with immediate family, particularly grandchildren and younger members, ensuring local traditions and customs and knowledge and history are transferred to the next generation and preserved in the longer term.

Specialised training workshops will be conducted to raise awareness about health and safety and develop skills which to help them face challenges of this special period of their lives. Visits to schools, patients in hospitals and cultural centres for women will also be held.

"It is important for us to consider elders a very important category in the community for their wide range of expertise and skills that can be used as a resource for the benefit of society and should be acknowledged and this is what we are doing through the programme."

"The management, members and volunteers of the centre thank the Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme for its contribution to supporting our programmes and activities.

"We will endeavour to work hand in hand and gradually empower the next generation to contribute to Qatar's growth and development."

The Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme aims to build communication bridges based on trust and cooperation between industrial companies in the northern region and the local community. It also serves to benefit the local community by working in partnership with public institutions supporting cultural, educational, health, environmental, security and safety initiatives.

The programme comprises industrial companies in the northern region, including Qatar Petroleum, Al Khaleej Gas, RasGas, Qatargas, Dolphin Energy Limited, Pearl GTL and Oryx GTL which support Smaismah, Al Daayen, Umm Qarn, Al Khor, Al Dhakira, Al Kaaban, Al Ghariyah, Al Ghuwairiya, Madinat Ash Shamal, Al Ruwais, Abu Az Zuluf and Fuwayrit and development programmes in these areas, including a road safety programme, first aid training for school students, 'Ana Mosef', entertainment places for kids, refurbishment of beaches in addition to organising annual national celebrations and sports events.
