HP to split into two companies

(MENAFN) Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced it is considering splitting into two companies by separating its computer and printer businesses from its corporate hardware and services operation, Arab News reported.

HP, which is currently undergoing a massive reorganization period, is still trying to cope with moving away from traditional personal computers and to focus on mobile devices, which involved cutting around 34,000 jobs in a reduction plan which begun in 2012.

By splitting into two entities, HP is following on the footsteps of several technology firms and other corporations which have split into separate companies due to a belief that more focused firms perform better.

Such companies include US online retail giant eBay, which announced last week its plans to split PayPal into its own company in order to help the unit compete better in the fast-moving online payments segment.
